GroundWorkBJJ Interviews…Kayla Harrison

We got a chance recently to talk with Olympic Judo gold medalist, Kayla Harrison. Kayla is the first American (male or female) to win gold in the Olympics.

When Kayla was just 13, she was sexually abused by her coach, Daniel Doyle, who is now serving a 10 year sentence in federal prison. She’s become an outspoken advocate of survivors of sexual abuse, so before the interview, we briefed her on our community’s dealings with the NYE rape cases. She also talked with us about rumors she’s starting MMA, training at Renzo’s, young girls cutting weight (she doesn’t anymore and competes at 78kg), the positive impact coaches can have in their athletes’ lives and more.

A big thanks to Kayla and her sponsors!
